Academic Link Outreach Board of Directors

Jan Link, President and Director: Jan taught elementary school, was a curriculum director, elementary and high school principal in five districts and two states. After retirement, Jan opened a private one-one-one tutoring center with her daughter, Leslie Mix, in Kirkland. While Leslie ran it, Jan created a non-profit, Academic Link Outreach, to address the outside-the-school-day academic needs of students in the public schools.

Leslie Mix, Secretary/Treasurer: Leslie graduated from WSU with a degree in Business and Hospitality. For twenty-five years, she managed Academic Link, tutoring center, in Kirkland. She continues to work with the Lake Washington School District and Academic Link Outreach.

Brian Sullivan, Chairman of the Board: Brian served on the Mukilteo City Council and as Mayor of Mukilteo. He served in the Washington State House of Representatives prior to joining the Snohomish County Council. He now serves as Snohomish County Treasurer.

Shirley Sutton, Board Member: Shirley earned an MA in Education and Law and Justice. She worked as a director of homeless programs in the Yakima School District. In Lynnwood, she served eight years at Lynnwood City Council. Shirley has earned many rewards: Lift Every Voice Legacy Beloved Community Award, Carl Gipson Lifetime Achievement Award, and the NAACP Roots Award.

Erin Jones, Board Member: Erin has been involved with education for over thirty years as a teacher, Assistant Washington State School Superintendent, and School District Administrator. She was the Washington State Milken Educator of the year in 2008. In 2015, she was the Washington State PTA’s Outstanding Educator. She is known as Champion of Change. Today, she is an educational consultant providing workshops, coaching, and motivational speeches.

Adam Sbai: A member of the PATH To College Success program, Adam graduated from the University of Washington. After working for the Social Security Department, he joined the Japanese government for the past 3 years working in their elementary and middle schools. He plans to return next year to the United States and enter graduate school in Data Analytics.

Rosaura Arriola (Rosie): An alumna of Texas Tech University and board-certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). She has added two decades of specialized experience in orthopedics to her practice. Her dedication has earned her a spot among Seattle Magazine’s Top Doctors.

Dr. John Yost: Graduated from WSU and continued to earn his master’s at Stanford, MDIV at Harvard, and PHD at Duke. He spent time as Vice Chancelor at University of Nebraska and was Provost at the University of Idaho and University of Alabama. After retirement, he served as Dean of Graduate Studies and research at Bradley University.
